Carl Edwards overcame a pair of starts at the rear of the field, a wild slide down pit road and a spin to win Friday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Florida Dodge Dealers 250 at Daytona International Speedway. Edwards, the 2003 Raybestos ROTY, led the final 21 laps, holding off a charging Travis Kvapil to win the season-opening event by .141 seconds. Edwards qualified sixth; but started at the rear of the field due to a pre-race engine change. Edwards quickly erased the handicap took the lead for the first time on the 68th of 100 laps; passed Frank Kimmel on the sixth of seven caution periods to take the lead for good.

Kvapil drove Bang Racing and the No. 24 LINE-X Tundra into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history books by breaking the highest finish for a new team at Daytona, previously held by Kenny Martin.

Darlington Raceway officials announced today that installation of SAFER barriers at the historic track is under way. A recent announcement by NASCAR stated that all facilities hosting NEXTEL Cup Series events would be equipped with the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction system by January 2005.

Huffman, No. 12 Toyota Post Race Report
Robert Huffman was looking to win his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Daytona, after winning the previous three NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series races at the superspeedway. After a strong qualifying effort, Robert started his Innovative Motorsports #12 Toyota Tundra in the eighth position and had carefully maneuvered the truck into third place when the caution flag dropped at lap 25. After slowing down for the caution, as is required by NASCAR, Robert was hit from behind by a truck that did not slow down and, consequently, hit the outside wall crushing the front end of his Toyota Tundra and ending his hopes for a fourth consecutive victory at Daytona.

Cook Takes First Daytona Pole
Terry Cook, the most consistent NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver at Daytona International Speedway, won the Bud Pole for Friday's Florida Dodge Dealers 250 with a fast lap of 183.643 mph over the 2.5-mile high banked superspeedway. The pole was Cook's eighth but first since last August at Indianapolis Raceway Park, a short track. Bodine to Come from 32nd in Florida Dodge Dealers 250 at Daytona
Geoff Bodine qualified the Team EJP Racing Chevrolet Silverado in the 32nd position for the Florida Dodge Dealers 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Daytona International Speedway. Bodine's quickest lap was 50.336 seconds, which translates to 178.798 miles per hour on the 2.5-mile tri-oval. Terry Cook won the pole for the event with a 49.008 second/183.643 mile per hour lap.
